Our speciality is breakdowns. We rarely condemn a boiler – we find that we can repair the vast majority of broken down boilers when others cannot.
While we provide an excellent installation service, our starting point
is always
– can it be repaired and if so is it economical to do so long
term? It is certainly worthwhile to replace a boiler at the end of its
life with a high efficiency condensing boiler, which will provide fuel
savings over its lifetime, however it often does not make economic or
environmental sense to replace a fully functioning boiler for the sake
of it. A little care and knowledge will prolong the life of your boiler
and save
you money.
If you boiler is fine, then there are smaller, very cost effective ways
of spending
your money to improve the efficiency of your central heating
system. For example, Thermostatic Radiator Valves will allow you to
control individual radiators and a timer/programmer will allow you to
control the times your heating is on. The more you are able to control
heating times and temperatures across your property the more money you
will save. Furthermore central heating and hot water system controls such
as these are recognised as efficiency works and incur a VAT rate
of just
5%.
Other measures such as installing a magnetic filter can help increase the life span of your boiler. These devises prevent sludge in the system water from entering your boiler and ageing the parts prematurely. They have largely replaced the use of powerflushes, although occasionally a powerflush is still necessary, and can usually be supplied and fitted at a fraction of the price (please contact us for a quote).
There are however times when a new boiler is required. We can provide
you with
a quote for straight boiler replacements to a whole new central
heating system.
We breakdown costs out for each element of the works so
you can pick and choose what to include according to your budget. We
advise customers to obtain at least three quotes from competent gas safe
registered engineers.
For those households with an "inefficient boiler" - rated G or worse – you may be entitled to claim up to £400 under the new Government scrappage scheme if you replace it with an energy-efficient one or with another renewable technology.
